Working from home certainly has its benefits, and for new parents, being at home can be a mixed blessing. On one hand, they are in position to make a living working in the field they love. Advances in technology and ecommerce like shopping Office Depot from your computer or smart phone have made this easier than ever before. Take real estate professionals, for example, if they want to show a property, they can make arrangements to do most of the work online, and arrange other required services like walk throughs, inspections and signings around the baby’s schedule. But the day comes when they have to leave their baby in the care of a babysitter or relative, and sometimes, the stress is almost unbearable.
Some new parents have a very hard time leaving their baby for the first time. Mothers report feelings of paralyzing fear at the thought of someone harming their child, or have irrational fear of their child catching a disease from being around other children or adults. For many of them, taking little steps and leaving them for short periods at a time will building up their confidence that their child will be fine in the care of another person.
One mother had a very smart solution to her dilemma. She carefully interviewed a well-qualified and experienced nanny for her six-month-old son. Starting slowly, she paid the woman to spend a half day with her and her baby. After a few days she felt comfortable enough to leave him with her while she walked to a nearby Office Depot to redeem a purchase she had made with a Groupon. By the end of the next week, she felt comfortable enough to leave him with the sitter while she left to show a client an office suite that he wanted to lease. Then, something totally unexpected happened when the baby turned eight-months old.
While mom was off showing a couple a duplex, the baby stood up and started walking! She was distraught to learn she had missed this important milestone – every mother wants to see their firstborn take his first steps, but she soon realized, he, like millions of babies before him would have many milestones to go. And thanks to the nanny-cam she had installed, she was able relive the moment as soon as she looked at the footage.
